Don't Neglect Your Firewood Stores During The Summer

Summertime is when everyone puts cosy nights in and warm fires to the back of their mind, focusing instead on garden parties and the bright evenings.

But buying logs for sale during the summer months rather than waiting till it's cold again is actually really sensible. Find out why here:

1) Good deals

As there is less demand for firewood in the warmer months, homeowners can find great deals. If you have enough space to store wood until winter, it is worth taking advantage of these low-cost prices to save money in the long run.

2) Avoid winter shortages

It also helps to avoid shortages during the winter when everyone rushes out to buy firewood so they can stay warm. Demand peaks during late autumn, which means buyers often have to wait longer for deliveries or hunt around suppliers for availability.

Purchasing earlier in the year offers homeowners peace of mind they will have enough firewood for when they need it.

3) Enough time to dry

By buying during the summer, this gives logs long enough to dry out properly. Wood that is chopped later on in the year will have a higher moisture content, which means it will not burn as well.

Dry wood is more efficient, producing less smoke and more heat, so the longer it has had to release the moisture, the better.

4) Store while it is still light outside

The number of hours of daylight falls dramatically during the winter, which means there is less time available to stack the logs while it is still light outside.

Indeed, during the summer solstice on June 21st, there are typically 16.5 hours of daylight compared with less than eight at the peak of winter.

It is, undoubtedly, a much nicer job to do when it is warm, bright and light, so you can see what you're doing more clearly and the wood can be stacked properly.

5) Summer Barbecues

Let's not forget summertime is all about barbecues, so buying firewood early on means you can roast marshmallows, cook food, and enjoy balmy evenings by a firepit with friends and family without running out of fuel.
